One Week Down, 15 To Go!

The first week is done and I'm still enjoying it...a very good sign. All of my instructors seem pretty cool so that will definitely help. I have already found some annoying people in my classes, though...the ones who want everything handed to them and don't seem to have the initiative to go find the answers. Isn't that why we're PAYING these people to teach us...to learn and think for ourselves? Oh well...nobody's perfect. And no, not all of them are 18...some of the bigger whiners are closer to my age!
I'm not complaining...just surprised. But it's Friday, I'm off work for the day and have a few hours to get in some studying (have two quizzes next week). For those of you off for the holiday weekend, have a blast! For those of us working, it's worth it, right? :) I know it is or we wouldn't be doing it.
Have you heard the latest regarding the Presidential race? Obama chose a white dude for his VP and McCain chose a chick. No matter who wins, it'll be historical. Hopefully the right one will prevail...of course, I'm still trying to figure out who that will be. I did see a quote this morning in the news that is pretty close to where I'm at...something like, 'If McCain wins it won't be so good, but if Obama wins it won't be so bad.' Looking forward to the next several weeks to see what these two guys have to say...and how much of it I believe.
I know by their profiles a bunch of my friends on Facebook have definitely made up their minds. I sure would like to be that confident and sure of a candidate...and I haven't been for a long, long time. Just remember...if you don't vote, you can't complain! :)
Happy Friday!

1st Day of School

Well...don't expect too much college craziness from this post. My first day consisted of one 50 minute class that was really just a 'here's what to expect from this course' kinda thing. My A&P professor is sort of a hippie chick (which instantly makes me like her more!) At least no one was wearing pj's to the first day of class. What is it with people and their pajamas anyway? Who said it was okay (fashionable? No!) to wear them out in public...no thank you. And it started with girls doing it and then the guys jumped on the bandwagon. Are you too lazy to change out of your sleeping attire before leaving the house? Then don't leave. Stay at home and play some more Guitar Hero (I am totally NOT dissing Guitar Hero...excellent game!) I do NOT want to see your lounge wear in front of me at the grocery store. At least the 'kids' who I have seen wearing pj's to class opt for the flip flop over the house shoe...I'm very appreciative of that! Of course I can't say the same thing for the 'adults' wearing them to Wal-Mart! Just one of the many reasons I try to go there as little as possible. Grown women with children...dressed in pajama pants and slippers...at the store. I know the days of getting all dressed up for the movies are long gone, but come on! Can't we still differentiate between street clothes and bed clothes?
Okay...that is my rant for the day. I hope I haven't offended any of you, but if I have...you might want to put on a pair of jeans! :)

OMG, these are heavy!

These books are only for two classes! And the white one on top is for Psychology...the rest are all A&P I! Good grief...guess I'll finally get my arms in shape carrying these everyday. :)

For those of you that have never been to Chattanooga, I just want to share with you how lucky I am that my campus is so beautiful. It is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River with easy access to the Riverwalk. There are pieces of art scattered all around the campus and there's even an outdoor art museum smack dab in the middle! Montevallo was pretty too, but it wasn't on a river! Nor do I remember lots of outdoor art pieces...regardless, I'm definitely enjoying college more my second time around. Classes start Monday morning bright and early, so I'll let you know how that goes.

This Saturday is the Southern Brewers Festival (2pm-12am) at Ross' Landing downtown. Funny...Lon is scheduled to work until 1 pm, but I am going in at 4 pm...hmmmm. :) Guess I know who's picking who up Saturday night! ha, ha, ha! Hopefully we'll get to see Lon's older brother and his family on their way back through to MI, too! They are visiting another brother (there are 5!) in FL and hopefully are able to enjoy the beach and some fun outdoor time. I think Fay is dumping a lot of rain, but hope she's giving them a sunny break too!

Happy Hump Day!

Mamma Mia!

Had a great girls weekend with Mom...and we really enjoyed Mamma Mia! We laughed out loud (along with everyone else...not like some obnoxious loud moviegoers), cried a little and couldn't wait to pick up some new ABBA cd's. I know not everyone is a fan of the 'musical,' but if you're looking for a feel good, funny romp with some great music, I do recommend it. In fact, I'm ready to see it again!
Well...one more week until it's back to school for me. I did find out some exciting news with my job yesterday, though. Since we finally sat down and put the Activity Calendar together, I found out I'll be learning lots of cool new stuff...polymer clay, Simply Swank soldering techniques, stained glass, glass fusing, wire wrapping...since I'll need to be able to teach some of the classes! Been working with hemp lately and have a craft day planned that I'll be doing devoted to hemp jewelry! Very cool.
Hope you guys in FL stay safe, keep your power and don't get washed away...looks like it might skirt right of Bradenton, anyway! :)

Back to Red...again!

Well, all it takes is a suggestion and I'm off and running. My stylist says, 'I bet you'd look good as a redhead...' and I made an appointment. Let's see...in the last year I've been blond (my actual natural color), with & without highlights, brunette, blond again, and now red...I'm trying to grow it back out again too, so we'll see how long that lasts! I had finally grown it down to my shoulder blades last fall...and then WHACK!...all gone. Super short and sassy...and now I go through the anguish of the 'growing out' phase. I think I'm past the awkward, unruly hair, must-wear-a-headband-everywhere part...I hope! What do you think??? Be nice (please)... :)

Oh, I've found something new (to me anyway)...Facebook. Not that I need something else to keep up with since I've now promised to update this blog more than weekly! But it's pretty cool...Lon got on it to search old high school buddies and I found a ton of people from my past, too...crazy. What DID we do before internet? Guess that's all for now...got about an hour before I head into work.

Happy Wednesday! Oh...and one more awesome thing about Chattanooga...it's mid-August, right? It is 75 with no humidity and a light breeze right now...ahhh...I know it's not the usual, but it sure is nice! High today should only reach 84...great day for Lon to run some RC 'toys.'

Woo Hoo!!!!

I did it! 4.0 my first semester!!! I'm just so excited because it's been 15 years since I was in school...so I'm super psyched that I was able to retain it all! Guess all those logic puzzles and hidden object games have done some good. :)
We have found a fun new game (actually a few) and have been recommending it and selling it like crazy...Doodle Dice. Check it out at your local Hobby Town USA or other locally owned hobby stores. I'd much rather give my cash to local businesses than the huge conglomerates anyway. It's easy, fun, silly...anyone can play from 2 people to a party. And it retails for about $10...can't beat that. Another fun one, especially if you have younger kids, is Chuck-It Chicken. Sounds funny, is funny and even Lon and I enjoyed playing it. If you haven't figured it out yet, we are two big kids ourselves and think everyone should take time to play some games. Only makes you younger!
If you have a favorite game (board, card, otherwise), please let me know. We are always looking for some fun new game to try! :)
Happy Monday!!!

Weekly or Daily?

Congrats Colleen and Paul!!! Married 08/08/08...we love you guys!

See...my idea of posting regularly meant 'weekly updates'...but as you can see, that's not good enough for some people (Christine!). So...here's what I don't have to report: I was hoping to get my final grades, but that hasn't happened yet (yes, I'm impatient too which is why I'm responding to Little Miss Impatient's request!) I have not yet been down to AL for my girls' weekend with Mom (that's coming up next weekend). I haven't started my fall semester, so no college craziness to report. Hmmm....what I can report is that the humidity has broken for a few days so we've actually had some 'fall-like' temps in August! Awesome, but since both of us had to work the last few days, we've had yet to enjoy it (other than not sweating on the way to work). But I'll take it because it's so much better than summer temps year round...good luck FL...I hope you get a winter this year!
Well, I hope that appeases you for a few minutes...oh, and Christine...like my shirt? Recognize it? ha, ha, ha! :)
Oh yeah...and I'll post more frequently than once a week, okay? I promise.

All new...all mine!

Well, after much thought (and the urgings of some people), I have finally started my own blog/site. :) Some of you may not know, but my latest and greatest news is that I'm a college student once again, but this time I'm in for my Nursing degree. We are so excited! We are absolutely in love with Chattanooga and think we may have found OUR perfect place. I promise I'll do better on updating this site than I did at http://www.lonjordan.com/, but that site is now only a photo album. You can check out 'our' blog at http://www.lonjordan.blogspot.com/, but this one is mine...to update anyone who cares on school, life, and the fun new things we find in TN and beyond. Right now I have to study for my Psych final tonight...chat soon!

Oh, and be sure to leave a comment or two that you stopped by...please!
